Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park

Foothill Rd Sunol, CA 94586

History

Located west of theI-680 freeway and the City of Pleasanton, California, Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park became a reality in 1988, when the East Bay Regional Park District acquired 1,700 acres (6.9 km2) to begin what would become its second largest park. In 1980, on Pleasanton Hill, a real estate developer had proposed the development of a golf course and a number of new homes. The plan was rejected by a large number of area residents and defeated in a 1983 referendum.

In 2012, the park district reported that it had acquired 1,367 acres (5,53 km2) from Robertson Ranch, east of Palomares Boulevard, which it would add to the Regional Park of Pleasanton Ridge. The tract included the Sunol Peak landmark (2.163 feet (659 m) high). The price of $6.2 million was reported. The report stated that the regional park had 7,500 acres (30 km2) of land before the purchase.

Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park is a 21.33 km2 (5.271 acre) park located in the East Bay Regional Park District overlooking Pleasanton, California and the east of Livermore Valley. With the acquisition of the Tyler Ranch, the park is expected to grow by nearly 1,500 acres (6.1 km2)(sic).

Tyler Ranch acquisition

The Tyler Ranch runs along Sunol Ridge for nearly 3.5 miles (5.6 km). At the end of Kilkare Road, the north end of the ranch meet the current Pleasanton Ridge park. It also has strong Foothill Road access. Priem Family Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving open space in the broader Bay Area, sponsored the purchase.

EBRPD claimed that the Tyler Ranch acquisition marked the occasion when the district acquired 100,000 acres since it was formed in 1934.
