5 Things You Shouldn’t Do After a Full Body Massage

Written by MagMedEd

Your body will be in a state of relaxation after receiving a massage. It is essential to take care of yourself and refrain from engaging in activities that can destroy all of the beneficial work that was just completed. After getting a full-body massage, there are 5 things you absolutely must not do.

1. Avoid Physical Activities

It is important to avoid any strenuous physical activity after a massage. Engaging in sports, vigorous exercise, or heavy lifting can undo all the positive effects of your massage and lead to aches, pains, and possibly even injury. Take some time for yourself and allow your body to rest or engage in light activities such as walking or gentle stretching.

2. Avoid Hot Showers Or Baths

Hot showers or baths should be avoided after a massage because they can cause the muscles to become tense again. It will also wash away the natural oils that are on your skin from the massage which can leave it feeling dry and irritated. Instead opt for cooler temperatures using lukewarm water when showering after a massage.

3. Refrain From Drinking Alcohol

Drinking alcohol immediately after a massage can have adverse effects on one’s body. Alcohol has been known to increase inflammation and prevent muscle tissues from properly recovering from deep tissue work during the session which can lead to more pain later on down the line.

4. Avoid Caffeine Intake

Caffeine intake should be regulated before and especially after receiving a full body massage as it acts as a stimulant that can undo some of the relaxation benefits achieved during the session by increasing stress hormones within your body as well as heart rate and higher blood pressure levels.

5. Don’t Forget About Hydration

Hydration is key in helping flush out toxins released during your massage session so make sure you drink plenty of water afterwards to help get rid of them from your body more quickly and efficiently while replenishing electrolytes lost through perspiration while on the table. Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water throughout the day following your session in order to reap maximum benefits over time!

Benefits of a Full Body Massage

  • Improved Circulation: A full body massage can help improve the circulation of blood throughout the body, allowing oxygen and nutrients to be more effectively delivered to the muscles, organs and other tissues. This improved blood flow can lead to an increase in energy levels and a reduction in muscle tension and stiffness. The increased circulation is also beneficial for lymphatic drainage, helping reduce swelling and inflammation.
  • Stress Relief: One of the greatest benefits of a full body massage is its ability to promote relaxation throughout the body. Massage can help reduce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline while releasing endorphins that create feelings of contentment and wellbeing. Regular full body massages can form part of an effective stress management program that helps prevent long-term physical effects of prolonged stress, including high blood pressure and tension headaches.
  • Pain Management: The relaxing nature of massage also makes it a great option for managing pain caused by muscular problems or injuries. The therapeutic touch increases blood supply to soft tissue, helping reduce inflammation and reduce pain levels without relying on medications or invasive treatments. It’s important to note that some people find massage too painful when dealing with chronic pain, but this can often be minimized by choosing a gentle approach like Swedish massage or hot stone therapy instead.
  • Posture Correction: Through their gentle yet firm pressure on tight muscles, full body massages are known to help correct poor posture due to muscle imbalances in the back, neck or shoulders. Over time this can help alleviate backache as well as improve overall balance within the body which is vital for maintaining good posture while standing or sitting for long periods of time during everyday life tasks or exercise activities.
  • Improved Sleep Quality: Many people experience heightened levels of stress during the day which leads to difficulty sleeping at night time – this is where regular full body massages come into play! Massage stimulates serotonin production which helps regulate sleep cycles so those who suffer from insomnia may find relief after a few weeks of regular sessions with a professional masseuse. In addition, massage therapy has been found to decrease anxiety levels and boost moods which can aid sleep considerably!

A full body massage is a great way to relax and rejuvenate your mind and body. There are however, a few things you should avoid doing after your massage to ensure that you fully reap the benefits of the treatment. Make sure to drink plenty of water after your session, as this will help flush toxins from your system. You should also avoid drinking alcohol or eating a heavy meal, as these can dehydrate and irritate your skin. If you have any concerns about what you should or shouldn’t do after your massage, be sure to ask your therapist for more guidance. Thanks for reading!
