Pleasanton is a city founded in 1894 in Alameda County, California. The suburb is situated in the San Francisco Bay Area about 40 km east of Oakland and 9.7 km west of Livermore. At the 2010 census, the population was 70,285. In 2005 and 2007, the Census Bureau ranked Pleasanton as the richest middle-sized city in the United States. The head offices of Safeway, Workday, Ellie Mae, Roche Molecular Diagnostics, Blackhawk Network, and Veeva Systems are located in Pleasanton.

Kaiser Permanente, Dell, Nordstrom and Macy’s are other major employers. Although Oakland is headquartered in Alameda County, there are some county offices in Pleasanton. The fair is held in Pleasanton, where the county fair takes place during the last week of June and the first week of July. The Regional Park of Pleasanton Ridge is on the western side of the town.

Community Park

Pleasanton Tennis and the Community Park have 12 illuminated courts, a shared pickleball and ball machine yard, an online booking system, youth programming throughout the whole year and adult programs, a pro shop and a rented community room.

The staff at the tennis center are teachers, retail experts and managers dedicated to offering superior customer experience. Not only in tennis but pickleball, ping pong, badminton and chess, they also offer quality lessons. Their Tennis Pro-Shop offers a retail service, racket string, ball rentals, demo, drinks and snacks for convenience.

Community Garden

A community garden is provided by the Library and Recreation Department in the Community Park of Val Vista. The garden consists of 34 full-size plots, each measuring approximately 225 square feet. As of January 1, 2011, seven (7) additional, smaller patches were added, measuring about 100 square feet, bringing the total number of patches to 41.

Gardeners are responsible to maintain their garden park and adjacent paths throughout the year (weeding and mulching with woodchips). Weeds, diseased plants, garbage and debris must be kept free from patches and paths at all times. Vines and other plants can not invade pathways. Gardeners must aim to follow organic and ecological gardening standards and at all times prevent the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.

Sustainable gardening means the careful use of resources to preserve the garden forever. Sustainable practice includes water conservation, soil protection by means of mulch, manure and composting, and natural pest control–barriers, trapping and the attracting of beneficial insects.

No irrigation system changes are allowed. If the gardener is not present in the garden, the irrigation system may not be installed. Timers are not permitted; when not in use and when the community garden area is empty, spigots must be switched off. Both gardeners can if possible, use water conservation techniques like painting with paw, leaves or grass clippings and soakers or irrigation pants.
